The personal homepage was awkward, handmade, uneven, and alive. It held favorite colors, poems, buttons, fan pages, lists, counters, guestbooks, under-construction signs, and too many fonts. Platforms made identity easier to publish and harder to own. The handmade room is still possible. It is no longer the default.
